{"id":408,"date":"2011-04-22T10:52:51","date_gmt":"2011-04-22T00:52:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/howden.net.au\/thowden\/?p=408"},"modified":"2011-04-22T10:52:51","modified_gmt":"2011-04-22T00:52:51","slug":"windows-7-and-samba-domain-joining-issue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/howden.net.au\/thowden\/2011\/04\/windows-7-and-samba-domain-joining-issue\/","title":{"rendered":"Windows 7 and Samba domain joining issue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It seems like I cannot get away from this as an issue.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve got a SME Server with samba 3.2.15 on it and I use it as my PDC for the Windows 7 workstations.<\/p>\n<p>I wrote about settings etc for Windows 7 last year when I first had an issue, but it seemed to be ok.<\/p>\n<p>This week while I built and installed a new PC for myself I could not get it to connect to the domain.<\/p>\n<p>The error I kept getting was that the domain controller could not be found.<\/p>\n<p>Having tried everything that I had used previously including the Samba registry settings, I ended up trawling via Google.<\/p>\n<p>I located this website with a <a title=\"samba join domain utility windows 7\" href=\"http:\/\/www.phyrix.com\/samba\/\">utility for joining domains<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And having downloaded and run it, it works. Simple as that. It just works.\u00a0 I love it.<\/p>\n<p>Strange thing is that it says that all it does is what I was doing manually. In any case, I am now joined to the samaba domain.
